Mightycause Instructions

Campaign URL: https://www.mightycause.com/team/Backtoschool2023

  • Start here (Open in a new tab, so you can reference these instructions)

  • Click "Join this team"

  • Create an Account (if needed) and click “Build Your Fundraiser” – make sure to click “Create a New Fundraiser” if a message comes up about existing campaigns with your account.

  • The campaign template content will load. This is completely customizable and we encourage you to make it your own!

  • Only one photo can be added as “Featured Media”—feel free to customize/add a person photo or from a TKP trip. Other photos can be added in the story section by clicking on the “insert image” icon. Same for videos.

  • Essentially each section can be customized by scrolling over and clicking when it appears blue.

    • IMPORTANT: In the campaign title, please add your name before “Back-to-School Challenge 2023” … for example: “Ted Lasso’s Back-to-School Challenge” Without your name or some other unique information in the title, it is difficult to add offline donations.

    • Be sure to customize your goal (a full classroom is $3,000), your story, images, and link your Instagram account if you wish.

    • On your fundraiser page, click “Set Duration” and mark it for October 1st.

    • Leave the pie chart (use of funds) blank, so it will not appear on your page.

  • IMPORTANT: Personal photos and your "why I support TKP" story, will make your page stronger and will help donors connect with you AND TKP!

  • Customize your campaign URL by clicking on “settings” on the left hand menu.

  • When your page is complete, click “publish” on the left hand menu. (And don’t worry… you can always go back and edit it!)

What are we raising money for?

This challenge is focused on TKP classrooms. Most of TKP’s income goes toward running our 12 schools. The $3,000 per classroom includes teacher salaries and benefits, student enrichment programs, school management, classroom equipment, and student supplies.

What is our goal?

$200,000

What’s the text-to-donate info?

Mightycause provides a text-to-donate option. Text “kilgoris2023” to 844-844-6844 and you will receive a link directly to the Mightycause TKP donation page.

Why are we doing a crowdfunding campaign?
Crowdfunding is a method of fundraising that leverages your networks. This model is similar to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society “Team in Training” model, regional 5k-type events, and many other fundraisers I’m sure you have participated in or given to.  Did you know? 75% of family and friends are more likely to donate when asked by someone they know. Boom!

What is Mightycause?

For the 3rd year in a row, Mightycause is the website we will use to execute this campaign. It allows us to create an umbrella campaign, and then our fundraisers (that’s YOU!) can create personal and customized pages tied to the big campaign. (Again, think American Cancer Society, local 5k events, etc.).

Will you help me get donations?

Throughout the 4-week campaign, you will receive a few communications emails. We will provide pre-written email copy for you, tips on how to share the TKP story via email and social media, pictures, and encouragement. We are thrilled to have you on board for this campaign and are committed to doing everything we can to help you succeed. This campaign is also a great time for you to share your personal connection to Kilgoris. Have you traveled? Share your experience! Why do you support TKP? People want to know! Definitely use the information we provide, but we encourage you to personalize it in any way too!

Questions you might get from donors

How do I get a tax receipt for my donation?

Mightycause sends all donors a tax receipt via email. "Mightycause Donations" will appear on a donor's credit card statement.

How should I instruct donors to make a donation?

Share your personal page URL via email, social network, text… whatever method of communication works best for you and the people you are asking to contribute a donation. Visit your page and copy the URL for your custom page. Once a donor lands on your specific page, they should click the red “Donate Now” button to begin the very straightforward process of donating.

What if someone wants to write a check or donate directly via our website?

Great, TKP accepts checks…and website donations! :) And, we can add it to your campaign, so it still shows up on your Mightycause page. Ask your donor to mail a check to The Kilgoris Project, Box 606 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025-5240. Confirm that TKP has received the check with Zach Carpenter at zach@kilgoris.org. Zach or Adri will enter it on Mightycause under your campaign. Again, the cost of TKP covering the fee on Mightycause and TKP accepting donations on our website is the same—so when in doubt, have your donors use Mightycause and let TKP cover the fee!

About Fees

Does a donor have to cover the transaction fee?

No. Before confirming a donation, Mightycause will provide an on-screen summary of your donation, plus the option to cover the donation fee or have TKP cover the fee. The process is very transparent and the donor has complete control over whether they choose to cover it or not. Mightycause provides TKP with a fantastic service we are happy for our donors to cover the fee or we are happy to cover it. The cost of TKP covering the fee on Mightycause and TKP accepting donations on our website is the same!

Here's How It Works:

  • Donors will be asked whether they would like to cover a transaction fee of 6.9% + $0.30 per donation.

  • If a donor chooses not to cover the transaction fee, TKP will cover the fee at 2.2% + $0.29 per transaction.
